May 24, 2012, 7-9pm
Rothko Chapel
Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston is pleased to partner with The Rothko Chapel and ISKCON of Houston for an inspiring conversation with Radhanath Swami and Dr. Jim Bankston, Senior Minister at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The evening's topic "Blindsided by God: Unexpected Lessons of Faith" will highlight their surprising and transformational spiritual lessons.
Radhanath Swami is a Vaishnava sanyassin (a monk in a Krishna-bhakti lineage) and teacher of the devotional path of Bhakti-yoga. He is author of The Journey Home, a memoir of his search for spiritual truth. For the past twenty-five years he has guided the community development of Chowpatty, Mumbai and has directed a number of acclaimed social action projects including Midday Meals, which daily serves more than 260,000 plates of sanctified vegetarian food to the children of the slums of Mumbai.
Dr. Bankston's 36 years of dedication to the United Methodist Church are filled with testaments to his deep love of God and all of God's good creation as well as his remarkable pastoral and leadership abilities. He has been senior minister of St. Paul's since February 1995. He has embraced the interfaith ministry of the City of Houston, building relationships with leaders in the Jewish and Muslim communities and beyond. In 2004 he was the recipient of the ADL's Julie and Ben Rogers Ecumenism Award "for work in furthering greater harmony and cooperation in our communities."
Join us for a heartwarming, enlightening, and inspirational evening!
