The Time is Now Capital Campaign
The Time is NOW! is the title chosen for our campaign to be in ministry and mission through the church in these exciting days ahead. We are indeed a fortunate people to be a part of this church at this time. We have the chance to do something truly lasting and memorable for Deer Park United Methodist Church – to free our congregation from $950,000 of building debt and free our resources for life-changing ministry!
Our hope is that you will begin to pray right now about what God’s will is for you in light of this exciting campaign. If everyone in our church will start right now to pray about God’s will, then something extraordinary will happen.
Even now, the ground is being cleared across the street from the church where San Jacinto Elementary School will relocate. Our church is already making plans to be in ministry with the additional children, families, and educators that our new neighbors will bring.
This past summer, in addition to two sessions of Vacation Bible School, we offered a Creative Arts Camp to elementary aged children. Our dream is to have multiple summertime day camping opportunities (arts, sports, music, and others) for children in addition to our growing Sunday and midweek children’s programs.
Our youth program helps teenagers grow in their faith through participation in mission. This past summer, 60 youth, college students, and adults left our area to be the hands and feet of Christ in mission. Several others served our own community through Helping Hands. We continue to explore additional mission outreach opportunities. We also plan to grow our Sunday morning and Sunday evening youth growth groups.
We have added three new adult Sunday Growth Groups in the last 3 years (two this fall!). These, along with our growing Wednesday Night Live groups, are geared toward assisting our adults to grow in love towards God and neighbors.
I have no doubt that Deer Park United Methodist Church’s best days are ahead of us. The Time is NOW to free ourselves from our building debt so that we can respond faithfully to all the ministry opportunities just ahead. I hope that you will join me in this season of prayer and discernment and allow God to guide you as we each ask the question, “Lord, what do you want to do through me?” May God be glorified as we faithfully take these next bold steps.
With joy, serving as your pastor,
Deborah

The Time is NOW! Capital Campaign Q & A
Why are we having the campaign?
- Currently, over $84,000 of our annual operating budget of $690,474 is being used to service building debt. The church leadership has decided that The Time is NOW to clear that debt and release the funds for more life-changing ministry.
Where did the debt come from?
- The $950,000 debt we carry results from a combination of money owed for the existing sanctuary building (1990), parking lot (1999), family life center(2000), and air conditioner replacements(2009).
What is the difference between a capital campaign and regular annual giving to the church?
- Funds pledged to the capital campaign are time limited (3 years) and are designed to be over and above giving that supports the annual operating budget of the church.
How will the money I give to this campaign be used?
- Money raised through the The Time is NOW campaign will be used to pay the principal balance of our loan. We will continue to pay interest from our operating budget so that each person can be assured that their “over and above” giving goes directly to eliminate debt.
What if I have more questions?
